WELCOME TO 6TH GRADE!
My name is Charlene Sonnenberg, and I will be your child’s teacher this year. I have been teaching for the Utica Community School District since 1993. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from Western Michigan University in 1993, American Montessori Association training in 1997, Master's of Reading Education from Marygrove College in 2004, and my post-graduate certificate in Elementary Education from Madonna University/Baker College in 2011.
I believe each child in my classroom is unique and different. I tailor my lessons to meet each student at their level and incorporate the Montessori method of "follow the child" into my classroom on a daily basis. I believe in the theory that students achieve when they are taught in small groups, and incorporate blended learning into my daily classroom life, as well. Your child’s success is very important to me, and when I stand in front of them each day, I remind myself that every one of them is someone’s beloved child. I promise to treat them as such.
I have been married to my high-school sweetheart, Jim, since 1994. I have two children: Braye (17) and Brenna (16). I also have two dogs, a cat and a hedgehog. I am proud to say that my family and I are residents of Sterling Heights. I enjoy spending time at our family cottage on Wixom Lake and leading a small group youth group at our church. My favorite superhero is Wonder Woman!
If you need to contact me, the fastest way to reach me is via email: [email protected]. I will usually respond within the school day. If you would like to leave me a voicemail message, please dial 586-797-4221. I will return your phone call after the school day ends.
